Schedule of Events

We offer a variety of activities so you can plan your ultimate Homecoming & Family Weekend experience. Some notes to consider: 

  • Events are complimentary unless otherwise noted. 
  • Ticketed events may fill quickly so reserve early. 
  • Tickets are one per person, including your Wildcat. 
  • Registration & ticket sales begin August 17 @ 3 pm ESTAdvanced ticket sales end Oct. 3. 
  • Note event start/end times and consider any overlaps before reserving tickets.
  • All sales are final/no refunds. 
  • HFW fun happens in rain or shine. If it does rain, some events may move inside.

Friday, October 7

All activities on the Downcity Campus! 

– 8 pm  / Check-in / Bowen Center for Science & Innovation 

Stop by to get your HFW wristbands and any tickets you reserved. You can also purchase HFW commemorative tee’s, and chat with members of the HFW planning team.

4 pm / Weybosset Historical Walking Tour (ticketed event; no charge SOLD OUT) 

Learn about the arts, entertainment and historic architecture scene along Weybosset Street, adjacent to JWU’s Downcity Campus. Faculty from the Colleges of Arts & Sciences and Hospitality Management will lead the conversation during an easy stroll starting at Abbott Park, traveling toward the Providence River, and ending at JWU's Academic Center on Westminster Street. There, you'll experience the incredible features of the College of Health & Wellness Exercise & Sports Science labs. No charge, but please register to confirm your participation.

6 – 8 pm / Academics Showcase / Various Downcity Locations

Spend time with faculty from our Downcity-based colleges: Arts & Sciences, Business, Engineering & Design and Hospitality Management (Health & Wellness represented earlier – see Weybosset Walking Tour). You’ll see the results of student projects and explore exciting spaces where students learn. Pick up a passport at your first stop, get it stamped, and be entered in a drawing for great JWU swag. The Showcase runs from 6 – 8 pm (perfect for joining the headline entertainment at 8!). Most activities are open house format so you can stop in any time. Note the scheduled starts for certain activities. 

College of Arts & Sciences 

JWU Media Experience / TACO Center

Visit The Center for Media Production on the first floor of TACO. Families can interact with the green screen and record a spot in the Podcasting Studio.  


Ever wondered what a crime scene investigation entails? Come to the Criminal Justice lab on the 5th floor of TACO to interact with Criminalistics students and faculty as they process a staged crime scene. Learn why crime scenes are processed the way they are. 

Grow Tent Tour / Bowen Center

"Fascinating!" is how a participant described this experience last year. On one of the scheduled grow tent tours (6 & 7 pm starts), you will see the lab space and learn more about  Arts & Sciences plant science courses, and College of Business components, for JWU’s Cannabis Entrepreneurship program. 

College of Business 

JWU Sharkfest - Build Your Business / Student Services Center 

Thinking of starting or building a business? Learn about JWU Sharkfest which offers students from all majors an opportunity to pitch their business concept for cash prizes. Meet and greet with College of Business Entrepreneurship faculty and gain wisdom on starting up and growing YOUR business.

College of Engineering & Design 

By Design / Bowen Center

JWU Graphic Design students do amazing work, and some of it will be on display in the exhibit space, lower level of the Bowen Center for Science & Innovation. Come have a look! While you’re there, see what’s new in the Innovation Lab. 

Do the Robot / Bowen Center 

In the Bowen Center, be on the lookout for creations from our VEX Robotics students. Find some in the robotics lab (room 109) and others roaming the floors. 

College of Hospitality Management 

Tea Time! / Xavier Academic Center 

The Food & Beverage lab on the first floor of Xavier Academic is where you can enjoy a tea tasting, complete with a faculty-led discussion on the geography of tea. (6:30 & 7:15 pm starts)

Hospitality Trivia Bingo / Xavier Academic Center

Come find out just how much you know (or don't know) about one of the world's largest industries! Join us for Hospitality Trivia Bingo in the SEEM lab on the first floor of Xavier Academic and meet the COHM faculty who will be hosting the fast-paced and exciting games. You may even win a prize!

8 – 9:30 pm / HFW Talent Show & Open-mic Night / Schneider Auditorium

We can't wait for this new-to-HFW event! It promises fun for all and is designed to celebrate the "Rock Star" community that is JWU. Join us as we cheer on individuals and groups who take to the stage and share their talents. Audience participation is welcome so if you or the whole family have something to share, we'll be ready! Seating is limited.

He has also shared the stage with The Roots, Ludacris, Train, John Mayer, The Dave Matthews Band, and Maroon 5. He is a touring songwriter and musician, a podcast host, and a friend of JWU!

Join the JWU Players for an hour of laughter and comedy during their fourth annual HFW "Whose Line is it Anyway?" improv show! Donations towards our spring musical accepted at the door.

Members of our Parent & Family Advisory Board invite you to say hello and enjoy a beverage/light snack. A great way to start the day and get ready for greetings from JWU’s president. 

10:30 – 11:30 am / Wildcat Chat with President Marie Bernardo-Sousa, LP.D., '92 / Wildcat Center Lounge

Hear from JWU’s Providence Campus president as she reflects on the first six weeks of the academic year and discusses the vision for JWU's future. College deans and department leaders will join President Bernardo-Sousa for Q&A at the conclusion of this special session.

Stroll through our collection at your leisure and learn more about this hidden JWU gem. 

11:30 am – 1:30 pm / CFIT Pop-up Lunch / Cuisinart Center for Culinary Excellence (ticketed event; $75 per person)

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience a special meal prepared by three talented seniors and an all-student staff from the JWU Providence College of Food Innovation & Technology. They are curating a four-course lunch to raise funds for a senior class gift of new china for the dining rooms in the Cuisinart Center for Culinary Excellence. Their menu:

LEAF: kombu cured scallop | compressed beet | tea leaf

GRAIN: hand-pulled noodle | duck consumé | herb & flower

MEAT: smoked pork | corn | fermented cranberry | sorrel

PALM: coconut | rice | cinnamon

Games . . . pumpkin painting . . . music . . . caricature artists . . . and lots more! The Spirit Zone will be hopping all day. Join the festivities! 

11:30 am – 3:30 pm / Food Truck Extravaganza / Lot F (across from the CCCE Building) 

Hungry? Enjoy cuisine from some of Rhode Island's most popular food trucks. This year's scheduled lineup feaures an expanded selection and includes a vegan option. All food truck vendors accept cash and/or credit cards. 

11:45 am – 1 pm / Cupcake Wars for Families / Cuisinart Center for Culinary Excellence (ticketed event; $5/person SOLD OUT)

Time for some friendly family competition! We'll provide the ingredients (cupcake blanks, buttercream and some mystery items) that teams of 3 or 4 will use to create cupcakes. Creations will be judged based on appearance and taste. This is sure to be fun so join in, regardless of your student's major  will an Accounting major's family come out on top? Or will Baking & Pastry Arts take the cake?

12 noon – 3 pm (or while supplies last) / Culinary Showcase / Cuisinart Center for Culinary Excellence 

This is when students and chefs from our College of Food Innovation & Technology will shine. Visit our state-of-the-art academic labs and enjoy complimentary samplings of sweet and savory foods. Learn about some of our culinary-focused clubs & orgs, which may have their popular goodies for sale. Don't miss our JWU artisans at work.  

1 – 7 pm / Wildcat Tailgate Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics complex 

Join us for a tailgate during the women’s soccer, men's soccer and field hockey games. Bring your favorite tailgate snacks and beverages, as well as a blanket or chairs, and cheer on our Wildcats! No registration is necessary. Consumption of alcoholic beverages is limited to persons 21 years and older and must be consumed responsibly within the tailgate area.  

1:30 – 3 pm / Paint the Town / Wildcat Center Lounge (ticketed event; $15/person SOLD OUT) 

Calling all Van Goghs! Sign up now for a seating at our instructed painting activity. Seating is limited. 

2:30 – 3:30 pm / Wine Tasting / Cintas Dining Room, HAC Building (ticketed event; $7 per person SOLD OUT) 

Attention wine enthusiasts or casual fans: Enjoy an interactive experience and lively discussion led by faculty from the College of Food Innovation & Technology. All are welcome but participants must be 21 or older to partake in wine sampling.

8 pm / Family Bingo / Wildcat Center Main Gym

Feeling lucky? Try your hand at Family Bingo! Join us for your chance to win a variety of awesome prizes! You will receive 10 bingo cards, which corresponds to 10 rounds of play, so there are multiple opportunities to win! All are welcome to participate. Note that seating is limited.

Following bingo, join us for some late-night trivia. Fun for the whole family.

Sunday, October 9

10 am & 11:30 am seatings / Sunday Brunch / Cuisinart Center for Culinary Excellence (ticketed event; $15/person SOLD OUT)

Enjoy brunch prepared by students in the Club of Culinary Excellence (CCE) and served in a dining room overlooking the Athletics complex and beautiful Narragansett Bay. CCE students are preparing a great brunch menu, complete with a-la-carte items. This is always a popular event that sells out fast – get your tickets early!

1 pm / Family Movie / Wildcat Center Lounge

Relax in the Wildcat Center Lounge and enjoy a movie with your family. We'll even provide the popcorn!
